Audiologists work with patients and hearing aids every day. In all those experiences, which hearing aid feature stands out as a favorite? Dr. Arica Rock, Au.D shares why rechargeable batteries are her choice. Watch more Q&As, then schedule your appointment with BNA.
Alexandra in Bloomington asks, “What is your favorite hearing aid feature?” I think rechargeable hearing aids have really been an asset for a lot of patients. For those with poor dexterity or limited vision who wouldn’t otherwise be able to change a battery, it’s really been a huge asset for them. And just in general, it’s more convenient for most patients. We’re all used to charging devices like our cell phones, tablets, and watches. So it’s just another thing to pop in the charger at night. It takes just a short time to charge them. They’re ready to go in the morning. Rechargeable has really come a long way since it first came out. Patients used to be lucky to get 12 hours out of their charge, and they still had to replace the batteries every 9 to 12 months. But now, rechargeable hearing aids can last 20 hours a day, which helps to support Bluetooth streaming, so they can wear the hearing aids all day, and still stream sound, phone calls, videos, and music without losing battery. And that internal battery, we can now expect it to last 3 years, which just makes it more convenient for patients. I’m Dr. Arica Rock from Bloomington-Normal Audiology, and we’re ‘hear’ for you.
