We understand that price often plays a considerable role in the decision to wear hearing aids. For some people, those price-driven priorities can persuade them to explore used hearing aids, thinking they’ll be more cost-effective. But is that the best route? Dr. Stacy Chalmers, Au.D. shares some factors to consider if you’re looking into used hearing aids. Watch more Q&As, then schedule your appointment with BNA at our Bloomington-Normal or Pontiac, IL offices.
Amber in Pontiac asks, “Can I buy used hearing aids to save money?” Well, you “can”… They are available from multiple sources, mainly online. But the real question is, “Is it always a good idea?”, because there are many factors to consider. You don’t get a trial period like you would if you were purchasing hearing aids privately. And there may not be any warranty associated with the devices. So you’ll really need to consider where they came from. Because some hearing aids sold online have even been found to be stolen. So the safest way, if you are planning to go this route, would be to check with an audiologist. The audiologist can check on the serial numbers with the manufacturer, verify how they were purchased, and if there is any warranty associated with the devices. There can be costs associated with that, however, which would add to the price of the hearing aids themselves. At our office, we don’t sell used hearing aids, but if you do end up with some, we can help you determine if they can work for you. Oftentimes, it just end up being more cost effective to purchase new devices, and then you’ll have a new warranty and know that they’ll be appropriate for your hearing needs. I’m Dr. Stacy Chalmers from Bloomington-Normal Audiology, and we’re ‘hear’ for you.
