Amy in Bloomington asks, “What is live captioning, and how could it help people with hearing loss?” Well, live captioning is a really cool feature that allows us to take audio and transcribe it to text in real time. There are some pretty cool real life situations that it helps a lot in. For one, just any big conference or meeting-type setting where you are in those big, open rooms and you’re trying to hear a speaker. It can be hard to make out and understand the speaker in that situation, even for people with normal hearing. So, this type of feature really helps everybody in that situation. We have learned about a newer program. It’s called InnoCaption. It’s a new program that you can put on your cell phone. It’s an app. But they use live stenographers for your incoming and outgoing phone calls where you can hear the person talking also. But you can have the whole conversation just coming up on your phone as well. So, there’s a lot of situations like that where it’s helpful to use the live captioning.
