Frustrated by tinnitus? Beware of quick fixes like oils or ear drops. Dr. Arica Rock, Au.D. explains that, while there’s no cure, there are effective ways to manage tinnitus symptoms, and talking to an audiologist is always a smarter choice than chasing unproven claims.
Jeffery in Bloomington wants to know, “Can essential oils cure tinnitus? What about certain types of ear drops?” There are a lot of different products marketed for tinnitus, but there is no cure for tinnitus. So the short answer to that is going to be no. Unfortunately, it’s like the adage: if something seems to good to be true, it often times is. There’s just not a lot of scientific research to backup their claims. Often times they’re not FDA-approved, and they just use catchphrases like “Support your health.” Tinnitus can be a very bothersome thing for patients experiencing it, and so they’re gonna look for any quick fix or cure. Even though there is not a cure, there ARE definitely ways we can help you manage it. So, coming in and talking to your audiologist about different management strategies is definitely a better choice than the things you may see advertised for quick fixes like essential oils or ear drops that aren’t backed by scientific evidence. I’m Dr. Arica Rock from Bloomington-Normal Audiology, and we’re ‘hear’ for you.
